Alex Belfield reported today on his YouTube channel about his attendance at Nottingham Crown Court in front of The Honourable Mr Justice Saini for further case management regarding his upcoming trial scheduled for 4th July.
Mr Belfield reported:
- DC [Janet] Percival was the arresting officer and officer in charge
- "Nottingham" [sic] Police were claiming that DC Percival could go behind a screen and not answer Mr Belfield's questions in cross-examination in court
- DC Percival had questioned Mr Belfield for twenty hours at Mansfield Police Station
- The judge ruled it would not be lawful for DC Percival to have anonymity, hide behind a screen, or not be asked questions
- Mr Belfield's trial will start on 4th July
- The judge reminded DC Percival that Mr Belfield is a journalist using free speech, which she can't prevent
- You can't stop a journalist reporting on his own case, which was underscored several times in court today
- Judge Saini confirmed Mr Belfield can legally report on his own case, and keep people up to date on a daily basis from 4th July
- DC Percival had made a list of things she didn't like that Mr Belfield had said
- Mr Belfield maintains DC Percival doesn't have any greater right to silence, gag and shut up people like Mr Belfield that offend her with their free speech
- Mr Belfield thinks this is going to be another lesson in [Article 10 of the Human Rights Act 1998]
- Mr Belfield was allowed to self represent and cross examine DC Percival at trial
- The court confirmed that Mr Belfield is a broadcaster, entertainer, comedian and journalist
- If you report on Twitter, YouTube and online, that is journalism in 2022, something that the prosecution has failed to acknowledge until today
- This case is not about Mr Belfield being able to take people to court for damages
- Mr Belfield asserts that these people have admitted lying, especially DC Percival over signing and overruling judges and changing witness statements
- Mr Belfield also contends that he was arrested three times with no warrant to come in his home three times
- Mr Belfield acknowledged that while certain facts might not be relevant to this case, they will be relevant when he sues DC Percival in the High Court, along with "Nottingham" [sic] Police, the BBC and "the liars"
